Welcome: 2024  and our  17th Season has begun.   

Commissioning has started on our  vessels and tenders for the season with first tentative corporate sail  programs  pending  from Greenwich and Metro-NYC. Individual volunteers  are needed on docks and vessels for vessel fit up, setting sails, rig tuning, and pending seas trials -please inquire, watch for updated News & Views and please advise of your availability.

From our 425’ of docks and home port at 600 Steamboat Road, Greenwich- cooperatively adjacent to the Delamar Hotel and Restaurant L’Escale- are 1980 UK America’s Cup  Challenger  Lionheart K18America’s Cup Challenger –American Eagle US21 -built for the 1964 America’s Cup Campaign and later owned by Robert E. “Ted” Turner who entered some of most challenging races in the world winning the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit , the Annapolis-Newport Race,  the FASTNET   and who won the coveted “Yachtsman of the Year” twice while owner/skipper of American Eagle.  Other America’s Cup 12m and IACC yachts are available seasonally on select 2024 periods of time in Greenwich www.12mYDF.org, Newport, and now year round through www.sailnassau.com in Nassau, Bahamas.

Please see attachments above and advise of your volunteer availability for helm and/or crew, charitable  tax exempt participation of  your time and service, volunteer recruitment, referring and/or marketing of our tax exempt event corporate match races, charitable donations of our vessels for use in live auctions, receiving donations to 12mYDF of vehicles, sail or power boats, aircraft,  real estate, Yacht clubs events and  JSA Junior Sailing Programs. 12mYDF Current Outside Fund Raising, Charitable Giving and Philanthropy since 2006 has gross earnings of more than $4,976,000.00 as earned in Charitable Events  form more that 355 foundations and charities in Metro-NYC, Westchester, and Fairfield Counties.

12mYDF continues its ongoing  campaign for the further acquisition, restoration and preservation of  America’s Cup Class 12m, IACC and other America’s Cup Class Yachts  and in pursuit of our historic mission we urge and need your direct support, personal investment and commitment of time and service to actively achieve and capitalize on our current acquisition plans which include:

The major goals of our 12mYDF’s 17th Annual Appeal are:

  1. Acquire and consolidate the America’s Cup Class I2m Fleet between Greenwich and Newport!
  2. Expand our operation year-round to acquire, expand and coop other similar business operations -both here, Newport and Nassau -with similar interest of acquiring, restoring an preserving other classes of     Americas Cup Race Vessels.           .
  3. Broaden and deepen our educational sail and match race clinics among the many yacht clubs of Long Island Sound for young sailors of USS, the JSA, with other sailing enthusiasts – from executive training and leadership programs at major corporations, colleagues and schools.

 

In addition, our long terms goals include:     

  1.    Building an Annual Endowment to support a worldwide operation with major new benefactors and donors.
  2.    Broaden our Annual America’s Cup Class 12m and other AC Class events here and abroad while enhancing   historical awareness of the America’s Cup in the Long Island Sound and worldwide, as it contributes to the maritime history of the United States and other countries.

              Your availability to actively participate and support this  important acquisition for further development and corroboration with 12mYDF as a year round operation is appreciated! 

  1. 12mYDF continues its interest in further acquisitions and restoration of America’s Cup Class 12m yacht in Newport RI
  2. Our search for additional “Fin Keel Modern Class “America’s Cup 12m yachts to replace and match race pair up with Lionheart K18 – is ongoing. 

 

Successful consolidation of all of the above will provide a unique growth and development opportunity for 12mYDF to create the first ever “year round” charitable/commercial business operation dedicated to continuing our historic mission to -acquire, restore and preserve historic America’s Cup Class yachts and their racing heritage – based in Greenwich, Ct., with affiliate organizations Newport, RI, and in Nassau Bahamas.
